UNITED NEWS INTERNATIONAL (UNI) — Many start their day by hitting the gym while catching up on current events on cable TV.

But one fitness chain says it will no longer play cable news at its gyms.

Minnesota-based Life Time Fitness has banned CNN, Fox News, MSNBC and CNBC.

The company says its decision comes from member feedback and from its commitment to provide environments that are, “free of consistently negative or politically charged content.”

Opinions are split. Some want their cable news or accuse the company of censorship.

Others praise the company for making the gym a healthy escape from the real world.

Studies have shown news can affect mental health and mood.

For example, a study published in the Harvard Business Review found that people who watched three minutes of negative news were over 20 percent more likely to report their day as “unhappy,” compared to those who watched uplifting news.
