UNITED NEWS INTERNATIONAL (UNI) — Facebook plans to overhaul its News Feed to prioritize friends and family over brands and media.
In a Jan. 11 post, Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg said the company wants to ensure its services are good for people’s well-being.
Connecting people with each other, Zuckerberg wrote, is the most important thing. But he said public content is crowding out personal moments.
Once the changes kick in, Zuckerberg expects users will spend less time on Facebook. He added, “I also expect the time you do spend on Facebook will be more valuable.”
As for publishers of public content, News Feed boss Adam Mosseri wrote in a blog post, “The impact will vary from page to page.”
But many pages can expect to see their reach and referral traffic decrease.
These impending changes follow Zuckerberg’s 2018 New Year’s resolution to “fix” Facebook. The company says they’ll be rolled out over the next few months.
