UNITED NEWS INTERNATIONAL (UNI) — U.S. President Donald Trump is facing backlash after reportedly calling Haiti, El Salvador and African nations “shithole countries.”

Trump reportedly made the comments Jan. 11 while meeting with senators to discuss immigration issues, including the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals program.

Several people familiar with the meeting told The Washington Post that lawmakers talked about extending temporary protected status for immigrants from El Salvador, Haiti and African countries.

Trump reportedly responded, “Why are we having all these people from shithole countries come here?”

He then said the U.S. should bring more people from countries like Norway.

Trump denied using the offensive language, tweeting Friday, “The language used by me at the DACA meeting was tough, but this was not the language used.”

However, Democratic Sen. Dick Durbin, who attended the meeting, confirmed Trump called African countries “shitholes” repeatedly and said hate-filled things.
