UNITED NEWS INTERNATIONAL (UNI) — The 2018 Winter Olympic Games have officially begun.

The opening ceremony was held at the main stadium in Pyeongchang, Feb. 9, and everything that has been building up for the last few months finally came together.

Most notably, South Korea produced a show of unity with North Korea, as athletes from the neighbouring countries marched under one flag.

Russia’s national team was absent as planned due to the doping scandal but the Russian athletes who were invited to attend as neutrals paraded with the flag of the International Olympic Committee

Even the freezing temperatures were managed. The weather has been an ongoing issue for games organizers since it was announced the ceremony would be held in an open stadium. Thirty-five-thousand spectators were given seat warmers and windshields to help battle the elements and Team USA marched out in their heated clothing. Team Bermuda, however, stuck to what they know and came out in shorts.
