UNITED NEWS INTERNATIONAL (UNI) — Former NBA All-Star Stephon Marbury has retired from the Chinese Basketball Association.
Marbury’s final game came on Feb. 11 as his Beijing Fly Dragons were victorious over the Jiangsu Dragons.
He finished with 20 points as fans in the arena held up signs saying, “Ma Buli MVP” and “My Hero.”
After the game, Marbury told the crowd, “This is the way it’s supposed to end, here with you and only you.”
After playing for five teams in the NBA, Marbury joined the CBA in 2010 with the Shanxi Zhongyu Brave Dragons.
His most notable time in the league started in 2011 when he signed with the Beijing Ducks.
During Marbury’s time with the Ducks, the team won three championships ending a dynastic run by the Guangdong Southern Tigers.
In helping to grow the game in China, Marbury said, “I hope my spirit and the way how I played the game can affect the younger generation.”
