UNITED NEWS INTERNATIONAL (UNI) — A man in the South African province of Limpopo was killed and eaten by the same big cats he was suspected of hunting.
Authorities recently found human remains at a private nature reserve near Kruger National Park.
On Feb. 12 Limpopo police spokesman Moatshe Ngoepe told AFP, “It seems the victim was poaching in the game park when he was attacked and killed by lions.”
He went on to say, “They ate his body, nearly all of it, and just left his head and some remains.”
Authorities have yet to identify the victim.
However, they believe he was a poacher since loaded hunting guns and ammunition were discovered close to his remains.
An investigation into the case in ongoing.
The International Union for Conservation of Nature lists lions as a vulnerable species, however trade in their parts remains legal.
