UNITED NEWS INTERNATIONAL (UNI) — A robot named Flippy has been fired, for now, from his job at Caliburger; a fast food restaurant in Los Angeles.
Flippy, the burger-flipping robot, was trialed last year and on Monday, March 5, it became a full-time staff member.
By Thursday, however, it was unplugged and unemployed.
Flippy was meant to be able to cook up to 12 California style burgers at once, with a little help from a human-coworker, who was putting the raw patties on the grill.
However, news spread about the burger-flipping robot, Caliburger became more popular and Flippy could not keep up with the demand.
The bot was a victim of its own success.
Testing is now being done to see if Flippy can cook quickly enough to fulfill orders at peak times and staff are being trained to work alongside it.
Until then, Flippy is on the bench.
