UNITED NEWS INTERNATIONAL (UNI) — South Australian wildlife rescuers are urging people to check roadkill for surviving animals.
The Fauna Rescue SA group posted a video on its Facebook page on March 12, showing a newborn joey being pulled from the pouch of its mother, which had been found on the side of the road.
The video was posted with a message that read, “This is why it’s important to check pouches of marsupials like kangaroos – this little girl was found in her mother’s pouch after they were hit by car – her mother had died up to 24-hours earlier.”
The group said one of its off-call rescuers discovered the joey shown in the video as well as another one in a second roo up the road.
The organization went on to say that those who do find joeys should call wildlife authorities and should not attempt to rescue the the animals themselves.
