UNITED NEWS INTERNATIONAL (UNI) — The Philippine Justice Department has dropped drug charges against several suspects due to lack of evidence.
Some of them are high-profile names such as Peter Lim, Kerwin Espinosa and Peter Co.
Peter Lim is a businessman from Cebu City who surrendered himself in July 2016 after President Rodrigo Duterte accused him of being a drug lord.
Kerwin Espinosa, who has confessed to being a drug dealer, is the son of Albuera Mayor Rolando Espinosa who Duterte accused of being a narco-politician.
Rolando Espinosa was killed in prison in what police said was a shootout.
The case was based on the testimony of one of Espinoza’s former bodyguards who said Lim and Co supplied Espinosa with shabu, or crystal meth.
However in a more than 40-page document released March 12, prosecutors said the charges were based on hearsay and had no real credibility.
