UNITED NEWS INTERNATIONAL (UNI) — Indian President Ramnath Kovind has awarded former national team cricket captain MS Dhoni the Padma Bhushan — India’s third-highest civilian honor.
The April 2 ceremony fell on the anniversary of India’s victory over Sri Lanka in the 2011 Cricket World Cup final.
India won by six wickets, and Dhoni was named player of the match.
Seven years later, he stole the show by marching into the awards ceremony in full military uniform.
Dhoni, who’s an honorary member of the Indian Territorial Army, later wrote on Instagram that receiving the Padma Bhushan in military uniform multiplied his excitement.
He added, “Thanks to all the Men and Women in Uniform and their families for the Sacrifices they make.”
One of the photos Dhoni shared shows his daughter, Ziva, wearing his maroon army beret.
As of this post, Dhoni’s Instagram post has racked up nearly 1.7 million likes.
