UNITED NEWS INTERNATIONAL (UNI) — A horrific hospital mixup in Russia ended in the death of a 27-year-old woman.
Ekaterina Fedyaeva reportedly died after doctors filled her IV drip with a solution containing formaldehyde following a routine surgery.
She was supposed to receive a simple saline drip.
The formalin solution pumped into her body instead contained chemicals used to embalm and preserve corpses.
Drinking one ounce of formalin can kill an adult.
Fedyaeva’s mother recently launched a criminal investigation, accusing the hospital in the city of Ulyanovsk of “murder.”
Galina Baryshnikova told U.K. media her daughter suffered extreme pain and convulsions for two days before slipping into a coma.
She was flown to a hospital in Moscow but died of multiple organ failure.
Baryshnikova said the formalin drip eroded Fedyaeva’s body from the inside out. She accused the hospital of knowing about their mistake but doing nothing for hours.
