UNITED NEWS INTERNATIONAL (UNI) — Bill Cosby paid about $3.4 million in a civil settlement to a woman accusing him of sexual assault in 2006.
This figure was revealed during the comedian’s retrial opening remarks on Monday, April 9.
The first trial for Cosby concluded when the jury could not reach a verdict.
While the fact that Cosby paid former basketball player Andrea Constand was revealed during the first trial, the exact amount was not.
Judge Steven O’Neill ruled that the amount could be disclosed in the retrial.
CNN reported that Cosby entered the agreement with Constand on the grounds that the information wouldn’t be made public
Cosby’s defense attorneys said on Tuesday that Constand was after his money and that she had a history of financial problems.
Meanwhile, the prosecutors said that Cosby betrayed Constand’s trust in 2004 by pushing the basketball player to take drugs and drink alcohol before he sexually assaulted her.
