UNITED NEWS INTERNATIONAL (UNI) — Mitzi Shore, a well-known name in the world of comedy, died April 11 at the age of 87.

Shore, was the founder and owner of The Comedy Store, a Los Angeles club where many famous comedians got their big break.

Chris Rock, Robin Williams, Jay Leno and Jim Carrey are just some of the comedians who performed at The Comedy Store.

In a statement ,The Comedy Store said, “Mitzi was an extraordinary businesswoman and decades ahead of her time who cultivated and celebrated the artistry of stand-up comedy.”

Following the announcement of her death, many stars took to social media to honor Shore.

Comedian Kathy Griffin tweeted, “Mitzi Shore was a pioneer who gave more comics their start than I can count.”

The Comedy Store was closed on Wednesday in commemoration of its founder.
