UNITED NEWS INTERNATIONAL (UNI) — Some New Yorkers woke up to a push notification on their phones saying a tiger was on the loose in their neighborhood.
The New York Police Department received multiple calls the morning of April 12 reporting a small tiger running loose near W. 162nd Street and St. Nicholas Ave.
Those living in the neighborhood received push notifications from crime-reporting app Citizen, saying police were responding to reports of a loose tiger.
When police arrived at the scene, they discovered there wasn’t a wild tiger afterall.
It turned out to be a raccoon.
Police captured the raccoon and turned it over to Animal Care Centers of NY.
The raccoon was then euthanized because it might have carried rabies.
Some New Yorkers took to Twitter afterword to joke about the alleged tiger sighting, which even for New York, was strange.
