UNITED NEWS INTERNATIONAL (UNI) — A Saudi employer allegedly forced a Filipina domestic worker to drink household bleach.
The Philippine Department of Foreign Affairs announced April 16 that the domestic worker, Agnes Mancilla, is in serious but stable condition at a Saudi hospital.
The incident happened in the Saudi city of Jizan on April 2.
Mancilla had worked in Saudi Arabia since 2016.
The Department of Foreign Affairs said Mancilla was “repeatedly physically abused by her lady employer and was not paid her salary.”
Saudi authorities have arrested the employer.
The DFA said it’s working with authorities in the city of Jizan to “make sure that justice will be given.”
The alleged abuse against Mancilla was reported just two days after Philippine President Rodrigo Duterte welcomed home overseas worker Pahima Alagasi.
Her Saudi employer poured scalding water over her four years ago.
