UNITED NEWS INTERNATIONAL (UNI) — The Philippines is expected to deport an Australian nun who has been in a missionary in the country for 27 years.

Patricia Fox, a 71-year-old Australian citizen and land reform advocate, is the regional coordinator for the Sisters of Our Lady of Sion, a Roman Catholic religious group.

According to human rights alliance Karapatan, Fox was taken by Bureau of Immigration operatives from her house in Quezon City around 2:30 PM on Monday, April 16.

A BI spokesperson confirmed the apprehension to GMA News. They refused to disclose further details pending completion of the investigation.

The nun was reportedly involved with human rights on the southern island of Mindanao, and she will be deported for participating in illegal political activities and joining rallies.

President Rodrigo Duterte imposed martial law in Mindanao last May.
