UNITED NEWS INTERNATIONAL (UNI) — A former CIA employee has been identified as the suspect in a massive leak of classified information and hacking tools.
On May 15, the Washington Post reported that former CIA software engineer Josh Schulte is the target of an FBI investigation into what’s known the “Vault 7” leak.
Last March, WikiLeaks published thousands of secret CIA files detailing the hacking tools used by the U.S. government to break into users’ computers, mobile phones and smart TVs.
Schulte is currently being held on child pornography charges in New York City. During a January court appearance, prosecutors reportedly said that Schulte was the target of their CIA breach investigation.
No charges have been filed against Schulte in that investigation.
His defense lawyers insist that Schulte was not involved.
