UNITED NEWS INTERNATIONAL (UNI) — A Virginia National Guard soldier allegedly stole an armored vehicle and led authorities on a two-hour chase June 5.

Police identified the suspect as 29-year-old Joshua Philip Yabut.

Yabut was charged with driving under the influence along with felony counts of eluding police and unauthorized use of a vehicle.

The Virginia National Guard said the unit was doing routine training at their Fort Pickett base when Yabut allegedly drove away in the vehicle.

It wasn’t exactly a high-speed chase, as the M577 armored personnel carrier tops out at about 40 mph.

Major General Timothy Williams in said, “We are extremely grateful that there were no injuries as a result of this incident.”

Officials report the vehicle was returned with no significant damage.
