UNITED NEWS INTERNATIONAL (UNI) — The Dubai based airline Emirates says windowless planes are coming.
The airline recently unveiled a new first class suite and it features virtual windows.
So, instead of being able to see out of the window with the naked eye, a passenger will view images from fiber-optic cameras relaying what is outside.
Emirates President Tim Clark said, “The quality of the imagery is so good, it is better than with the natural eye.”
He concluded the aim is to remove all windows from future planes, making them lighter and faster and he says they will burn less fuel.
In 2014, a British technology and innovation center made a case for windowless commercial planes. The idea, however, was met with criticism and it was seen as futuristic. The biggest concerns were about safety risks in the case of an emergency landing and extra anxiety for some travelers.
