Former Philippine National Security Advisor Roilo Golez died of an apparent heart attack, Monday, June 11. He was 71.
His son, Rico Golez, vice mayor of Parañaque City confirmed the news in a text message.
Golez graduated from the US Naval Academy in Annapolis in the 1970s.
He served as a congressman for the 2nd district of Parañaque from 1992-2001 and then held the national security post from 2001-2004.
Acting Chief Justice Antonio Carpio said, “We lost a true patriot. He was an indefatigable defender of the West Philippine Sea. He embraced lawfare as a peaceful means of asserting our sovereign rights in the WPS.”
The House of Representatives’ Protocol Office said Roilo Golez’s wake will take place at Heritage Park in Taguig City.
The interment is set for Friday, June 15.
