UNITED NEWS INTERNATIONAL (UNI) — Match Group continues to dominate the online dating world.
On June 20, it purchased a 51 percent stake in the New York City-based dating app Hinge.
Hinge CEO Justin McLeod says their mission is to “provide a culture of thoughtful dating to millennials who are looking for more meaningful, lasting connections.”
He added the company is excited to expand its service to more people in the U.S. and abroad through Match Group’s support.
Match Group operates online dating brands like Tinder, Match, PlentyOfFish, and OkCupid.
Research firm App Annie reports Hinge is the fifth highest grossing dating app available on the iPhone.
Hinge aims to be a more welcoming version of Tinder.
It initially allowed users to only match with people whom they shared at least one mutual Facebook friend with.
But in March, Facebook blocked the app’s access to its users’ friend list information amid concerns about data sharing with third parties.
