UNITED NEWS INTERNATIONAL (UNI) — Oprah Winfrey has become the first black female entrepreneur to appear on the Bloomberg Billionaires Index on Monday, June 18.
Winfrey’s personal fortune hit a record $4 billion, placing her as the 494th richest person in the world behind Mark Cuban and Ross Perot.
In 2015, Winfrey bought a 10 percent stake in weight loss company Weight Watchers.
Her fortune increased by $427 million this year as a result, and the company’s share price has almost doubled.
She joins 64 other women on the list, with six of those being entrepreneurs like herself.
According to TVNZ, Bloomberg’s list ranks the world’s 500 wealthiest people by net worth based largely on daily Wall Street stock performances.
A majority of Winfrey’s income comes from royalties from her successful “Oprah Winfrey Show” which ran for 25 years.
Winfrey recently announced her multi-year partnership with Apple to create original programming.
