UNITED NEWS INTERNATIONAL (UNI) – Philippine President Rodrigo Duterte appeared to slam the Catholic Church again this week — this time during a family planning discussion.
Speaking in Quezon City on July 4, Duterte did not mention the Catholic Church by name. However, he did say the “creeping influence of faith” can sometimes contradict the government.
His government has introduced a new reproductive health law which the church does not agree with.
This news comes less than a month after Duterte allegedly questioned God’s logic and called him “stupid” over the Bible creation story — offending both the clergy and the church.
He also said in May he doesn’t need religion to show his faith, despite calling himself a Catholic.
Meanwhile, Duterte has agreed to relieve the tension by holding a dialogue with the Catholic Church.
The meeting is scheduled for this week.
