UNITED NEWS INTERNATIONAL (UNI) — Philippine President Rodrigo Duterte has called Vice President Leni Robredo incompetent.

Talking to reporters on Tuesday, July 10 about the planned transition to a federal government, Duterte said he would not resign to make Robredo president.

He said, “I don’t think she will ever be ready to govern a country.”

This comes after Robredo announced she accepted calls for her to lead a united opposition against the administration and its policies.

Duterte and Robredo come from different political fences. Robredo was once part of Duterte’s cabinet but resigned due to opposing views on his policies. She has also been given minimal participation in many government affairs.

But Robredo tries and makes her office relevant. Chief among her programs is a community-based project that has already provided ₱252 million worth of assistance to over 155,000 poor Filipinos.
