UNITED NEWS INTERNATIONAL (UNI) — A Filipino family in New Mexico has been grieving the death of a 9-year-old boy.

Kingdom Ferdinand Cobol drowned at Bottomless Lakes State Park on Saturday, July 7.

Mary An Cobol, the boy’s mother, told KOB4 she and her husband started panicking when they couldn’t find Kingdom in shallow waters.

Chaves County Sheriff said Kingdom was underwater for 10 minutes before they found his body.

First responders tried saving the little boy with CPR but he was unresponsive.

Kingdom made it to the hospital but was already brain dead.

He passed away shortly after that.

Cobol is a teacher in Hobbs, New Mexico.

She had just brought her family to the U.S. from the Philippines hoping they could all stay together there for three years.

A GoFundMe page was set up to help the family pay for medical and funeral expenses.
