UNITED NEWS INTERNATIONAL (UNI) –¬†Scientists in China say they have found the remains of stone tools more than 2 million years old which could rewrite the story of human evolution.

According to a new paper in the journal Nature published July 11, the collection of hammerstones, pointed pieces and scrapers are around 270,000 years older than what was previously thought to be the earliest evidence of human life outside Africa.

The scientists also believe there may be even older tools at the Shangchen site in central China, but farming in the area is restricting the search.

According to CNN, the discovery suggests ancient humans traveled as far as 14,000 kilometers from another proposed site of early human life in East Africa earlier than previously thought.

The dig did not turn up any human remains, but experts say the study offers strong evidence
