United News International (UNI) – They may be first class talents, but evidently, members of the Barcelona FC women’s team don’t fly first class.
The Spanish soccer giants are facing controversy after placing their women’s team in economy class while their men’s team flew business class on a trip to the U.S on July 24.
Barcelona was beginning a trip promoted as the club’s first mixed-gender tour when the team’s Instagram followers noticed pictures posted by the women’s team were taken in economy seating.
The team defended the decision, saying the women’s team was included in the tour last minute, and all business class seats had been booked.
The women’s players seemed unfazed.
Forward Alexia Putellas said, “I wish we would always travel like this, in these conditions,” and added she understood why the club made the arrangements.
Barcelona FC expressed regret over the situation, and promised the problem has been rectified — everyone will fly first class for the duration of the tour.
