United News International (UNI)- Kids who play the popular battle royale video game “Fortnite” are taking their skills to the next level.
The Wall Street Journal recently reported parents are beginning to pay for lessons for their children who may be less than adept at the game.
British mom Ally Hicks said she bought her son four hours worth of online lessons, spending about $50 total.
When discussing her decision to pay for the lessons, Hicks said, “There’s pressure not to just play it but to be really good at it. You can imagine what that was like for him at school.”
Critics took to social media to bash the idea, but parents in support of the lessons argue that it is no different than paying for other hobbies like basketball lessons.
One parent commented he just wants his kids to excel in the things they enjoy while others hope the hobby will turn into a scholarship or e-sports career.
